Has Change Really come to America!!!!

Has change really come to America with the election of the first African-American president? Has change REALLY come....is this part of the or was the 'vision of hope' of many Americans? The idea of a Black man and his family in the White House seems surreal, it is almost hard to imagine that this is reality in a nation that a little over 100 years ago basically prided itself on the institution of slavery and denied people of color the very basic of human rights, just 40 years ago we were battling 'jim crow laws'......

The "Hope" of many Black Americans is that somehow things are going to be so miraculously better for the Black community on a whole, hmmmm! We shall see. I believe that one thing to remember is that this is still a democracy built on the fact that this country is still governed by three branches and that the President is still limited in his ability and powers.....Black people there is still a Congress in this country.......can someone help me to mentally absorb what this means for Black people in this country, an African-American president that is???

After, this I shall return to daily business of my Visions of Hope for the community....the everyday challenges of the "common people", the less fortunate, the children lacking the basics of life-food, healthcare, and education.

I don't think that African Americans are looking for Barack Obama to "miraculously" change our individual lives for the better -- we're not that stupid. I think that for the first time African Americans are elated about the possibility of being seriously considered, as it relates to the American political process and the executive agenda because Barack Obama is our president-elect and a self-defined African American. Just out of curiosity, what is the position of the candidate for which you voted for president on homelessness?

It's not solely about that fact that our President is black, but it is definitely a plus. African Americans have been held down for many, many years. We had so many people fight to give us hope. People who have lost their lives just for the opportunities we may or may not get. And now, to see a black man win the presidency by majority vote is overwhelming. And I must be honest, it's about time. 43 presidents in a row and they were all white males. I'm not saying it's all about color and that's why Obama would have gotten my vote, but it is about opportunity. And a black man has never really been close enough to that opportunity until now. We've had 43 white presidents in a diverse society, and now I think it's time we get a different viewpoint. Barack Obama has definitely sparked hope in the matchboxes of our America, but now he must show proof and pull through. And let's face it, everyone has a boss. So yes, Obama will be limited, but I think he has a better chance now then anyone with his same viewpoints may have had in the past. I believe he will do us justice, or make the proper attempts to at least lay the foundation. But it will be hard for him. Just because he will be president now, doesn't mean he won't deal with racism in the White House. The same racism that dares to show its face as it lurks and creeps boldly through our streets, neighborhoods, and cities where we live. I believe that same eerie presence will attempt to sneak beneath the doors of the White House...if it isn't already waiting.

la maestra....as an Black male in this country I am elated and proud, as well, that this nation considering its past and most recent issues with racism and race relations not just with Blacks but with other ethinic peoples. Both candidates, to my knowledge, are advocates for homeless Veterans but homelessness in overall I really can find no position. I understand that John McCain was blasted for basically ignoring the plight of homeless/orphaned children.

When I spoke of "miraculous" change I was speaking on comments that I hear from Black people in my travels...not my personal opinion..I am very pessimistic about the president-elect but I am hopeful, if you can be both, just as I would with any other president -elect....I hear change but Americans and especially Black Americans always get "short changed" by the promises of those running for elected office....even when those politicians truly mean to implement their policies until they run into all the BS and political redtape.

I have no further comments on the Obama issue for now, lets wait and see. And by the way, I am a registered Democrat and I voted as such!!! Don't get it twisted...LOL!
